I was looking for a Hiroshi Tamaki movie to watch, so I picked one of the more highly rated / popular ones. Seeing as the score on IMDB and Letterboxd was quite decent and I'm okay with romance I decided to give this a try. I really was not a fan though. I was already frustrated at the initial miscommunications, obliviousness and the infuriating slowburn, but I guess that happens more often in the romance genre. I really hated the more serious things that happened next though, I thought the relationship between the main characters was quite cute so I really didn't like how Shizuru put herself down for not being/looking grown enough and how no one really rebutted this. Maybe Makoto, but barely enough. She has habits such as dressing in eccentric outfits, eating the same food that she likes, and keeping her hair a certain way and she is referred to as a weirdo or childish both by the peers and the narrative constantly. She keeps saying how she wants to be more 'feminine' and be 'more like a grown adult woman and have big breasts?' And it feels really strange that she has to say this because I don't really feel like there is a point, and girl you're already a grown adult woman. Stop saying this stuff because your boyfriend is normal and loves you. I don't get why this has to be a thing other than to further the narrative that i do not fuck with. (spoilers after this) When the plot twist was revealed I decided to stop watching it because apparently kissing a guy and eating more nutritious food made Shizuru become more grown up and caused her illness to accelerate? I don't know if this is a real illness, but it felt really weird to me that this plot was written like this, plus Miyuki basically accusing Makoto of causing Shizuru's death by feeding her and by kissing her just made me sigh. I don't see the point. 2 stars only because I like Hiroshi Tamaki's acting and I want him.

His Motorbike, Her Island

This was such a chill watch and I enjoyed it. The motorbike scenes felt like a baby sensory video. I truly love both of the romance leads in this film and couldnt get enough of all the guys in biker jackets lol. The scenery in this movie was breathtaking, I really liked the visuals and how they switched from monochrome to color. The romantic scenes in this were nice to watch, it was cute to see the characters all hang out. There is not really a huge conflict in this film but imo it did not need to be. It was already nice for what it is. Personal favourite is when Hachimoto called Miyo and sang to her over the phone, it really spoke to me because I also like to voice call the people I love and sing to them over the phone to this day. Beautiful movie that made me feel really happy. There are like two scenes for each romance lead where they sensually touch a motorbike
